Day 4
Today is my first day up in the rafters. It started with a massive rainstorm. Well, I guess I'm not really sure how massive the rainstorm was having lived in a desert my whole life, but it lasted for about an hour, and I just huddled as well under a tree as I could. I was drenched, but started out as soon as the rain let up.
Trekking through a dense jungle is a lot of work, I had to move slowly as I cut through the vegetation, and it was weird hearing all the noises of birds and animals skittering around under foot. The thing that made it all so much more unnerving for me at first was that I couldn't see any of the things making these noises. Normally in the desert you can see a long way off, so if you hear something, you probably have already seen it unless it managed to sneak up on you from behind, but here in the jungles of the rafters, things could be feet in front of you and still behind branches and leaves and foliage. My lack of being used to this was really exemplified when I came to a clearing just in time to see a cultist climb onto a thin, almost snake like, gargoyle and fly off quickly. I could see they were wearing the same robe as the person I met in the abandoned city yesterday, clearly there is something going on here.
I started off in the direction that the cultist went, hoping to find out more about this strange lands, and what the cultists are up to, and maybe why the gargoyles take people up here. At this point, I am starting to be more intriged by this land and its mysteries than getting back on the trail of the Dragon Rook, but I will keep my eyes open for any signs of the Dragon Rook, or a path back down. Continuing through the forest, I found a window in the ceiling, it seems to have more sky above it, and I'm not sure what is going on there. This place is full of mysteries, but right now, I want to figure out all I can about the gargoyles, so I took note of the location of this window in the sky for later. Perhaps once I am satisfied with the mystery of the gargoyles, I'll explore the window to see what is above there.
Continuing on, I came to a bit of a clearing where I was met with a massive mountain with a steep slope, it was almost as straight as a pillar. Looking up, I could see many gargoyles buzzing around the mountain, in and out of holes in the side of the mountain. From my vantage point below, it almost looked like they were bees in a nest. Looking around the base of this tower, there were some runes or letters etched there. I don't know what any of it says, but I recognized one symbol. Was it down in the abandoned city? Perhaps, but I don't know. I have recorded this symbol for future reference. It was starting to get late, but I did not feel comfortable setting up camp here, so I kept going to put some distance between me and this nest. Tomorrow will be another day, with some answers perhaps, but probably just more questions.
